The Home Hydrotherapy Primer

Hydrotherapy is considered one of the most effective therapies for adults to treat everything from daily aches and pains to more serious symptoms of arthritis and other ailments associated with aging. Regularly soaking in a hot tub is an incredibly easy practice to include in regular life too.
Hydrotherapy works by lowering the blood pressure in the body, which in turn boosts circulation to the extremities where more blood can bring much needed oxygen and filtration to the parts of the body that often hurt the most. The ideal water temperature for hydrotherapy is about 102 degrees.
Cold water is also a great medium for hydrotherapy and can help reduce swelling or puffiness, especially in injured or sore extremities like the ankles or calves. Doing simple exercises while your legs are submerged in cold water is a common rehabilitation method after injury and can be as simple as tracing the alphabet with your big toe. Play around with your water temperature but remember to restrict exposure to cold water to between two and five minutes.
Effective hydrotherapy cannot be rushed so it is important to invest in preparation for making your experience  as possible. We recommend lighting some scented candles, turning on soothing music, and dimming the lights to craft a general ambience that will support the rehabilitative quality of your hydrotherapy session.
Make sure to choose times when you know you will not be interrupted and can really focus on the activity at hand. Use hydrotherapy sessions to also clear your mind and restart your mental clock, especially after busy days or weeks in the office.
